Core services
From first weld to final tie-in.
Seven services, delivered by qualified crews and coordinated specialists, for a defined welding package or a full installation scope.
Field Welding
Qualified welding crews for mainline, tie-in and repair welds, made to approved procedures and the client's specification. Field welding is where Sterling started, and it is still the core of every job we take on.
What's included
- Mainline, tie-in and repair welding
- Manual and semi-automatic processes, as the procedure specifies
- Welders qualified to API 1104 or ASME Section IX as the project requires
- Welding procedure (WPS/PQR) development and qualification support
Pipeline Installation
Installation support for cross-country transmission lines and facility pipelines, from stringing through to lowering-in, coordinated with civil and specialist partners where the scope requires.
What's included
- Stringing, line-up and fit-up
- Bending and fit-up support
- Lowering-in and section tie-ins
- Backfill and reinstatement support with civil partners
Pipeline Tie-ins
Golden welds and tie-ins to new and existing systems, planned around outage windows so the connection is made safely and on time.
What's included
- Golden welds and final tie-ins
- Tie-ins to existing and live systems within outage windows
- Hot-tap and stopple support with specialist providers
- Isolation and purging coordination
Mechanical Installation
Installation of the mechanical equipment that makes a pipeline system work: valves, pig launchers and receivers, skids and station piping, set, aligned and bolted to specification.
What's included
- Valves, launchers and receivers
- Skids, meter stations and station piping
- Alignment, bolting and controlled torqueing
- Pre-commissioning support
Fabrication Support
Spool fabrication and pre-assembly in the shop or at site, so field crews spend their time installing rather than waiting on parts.
What's included
- Spool fabrication and fit-up
- Shop or field pre-assembly
- Pipe supports and miscellaneous steel
- Dimensional checks before installation
Welding Quality Control
Quality is built into every weld, not inspected in afterwards. Our QC covers people, procedures and paperwork from the first test weld to final turnover.
What's included
- Welder qualification testing
- Visual weld inspection by certified inspectors (CWI)
- Weld maps and full traceability
- QC documentation for client review
Inspection & Testing Coordination
We coordinate the specialists who prove the pipeline is fit for service, and pull their results together into one complete turnover package.
What's included
- NDT scheduling and coordination (RT, UT and other methods)
- Hydrostatic test coordination
- Liaison with third-party and client inspectors
- Turnover and as-built documentation packages
One contractor. Every resource coordinated.
We manage the contract, planning, quality and safety, and bring in qualified subcontractors and specialists where the project needs them.
